Of Withering Dreams is a dark fantasy romance (a.k.a. dark romantasy) for adults (18+) with morally grey characters, explicit content, themes or hints of trauma and abuse, scenes with blood and gore, violence, characters struggling with mental health and/or well-being, anxiety, and other complex emotions. There are open door sex scenes, parental deaths, loss and grieving, cussing, characters with dark pasts and dark deeds, and supernatural elements.
I also want to emphasize that this is a dark fantasy romance NOT a dark romance. In case you were wondering about the difference: dark fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy that explores darker themes and worlds that may be considered disturbing, unsettling, traumatic, or frightening to some. However, it is not considered the same as dark romance which often explores the darker side of love and relationships, power/control dynamics, fear, obsession, violence, abuse, etc.
While I am all for a great dark romance, this story isn’t that. I don’t want anyone to be disappointed if you were expecting certain tropes and themes that are often included in dark romances and the relationships therein.
